WHY DO LED UNITS CAUSE INTERFERENCE?
The CAN-bus system constantly monitors the current consumption of the devices to be controlled. This includes checking the taillights. It does this by measuring the electrical resistance. Consequently, the car will indicate a fault if a lamp is defective. Many CAN-bus systems also check the lighting of a trailer when connected. Comparing a taillight with incandescent bulbs and an LED unit, an LED taillight can consume up to 70% less power (varies per model). With an LED taillight, the CAN-bus system measures a low resistance, resulting in a fault being indicated in the vehicle, after which the lighting will not function correctly in almost all cases. NOTE: In extreme cases, the lighting may not work at all.

You can, of course, try to manually install resistors armed with wire cutters, a soldering iron, and heat shrink tubing, but this process is time-consuming, costly, and not to mention the frustration of all those tiny wires.
