Brake linings, also called brake shoes, are pressed against the inside of the brake drums during braking, slowing down the wheel. The brake linings are held in position by springs. Firstly, the tension springs, which sit horizontally between the brake linings. These ensure that the brake linings return to a neutral position after braking. Additionally, there is a retaining spring vertically through the wheel brake, which ensures that the brake lining remains attached to the anchor plate. This brake lining set contains all the wear parts of a wheel brake.
When replacing your trailer brake linings, it is best to look at the numbers on your current brake linings. Once you have found these, you can easily replace your brake linings with the product bearing the same numbers. If you are unsure or unable to read the numbers, you can look at the brand, dimensions, and the mounting holes of the brake linings. Pay close attention to which holes and notches you are currently using on your brake lining and ensure that they match the holes and notches in the new product. Replacing Hub Nuts
When working on the trailer's braking system and the hub nut is removed, it is advisable to also replace the hub nut. The current hub nuts are steel retaining nuts, designed for one-time use. If the hub nut is used multiple times, it will no longer retain correctly, which can cause it to come loose. A new retaining nut is therefore essential. A new nut will also tighten slightly more, due to the retention the nut must provide. On our YouTube channel, a video about replacing BPW brake linings.
