Air bells consist basically of a rubber sleeve clamped at the top and bottom by steel clamping rings. These clamping rings are fixed on the lower piston and upper mounting plate of the air bell. Together, this forms an airtight construction in which the "active working section" for the compressed air is located. By adjusting the air pressure in the bell, the rubber sleeve rolls up or down over the lower piston, causing a change in height. Like a spiral spring, the air bell is fixed to the axle or integrated in the strut.
